ABOUT PAGE

This page gives you a little background information on the site and staff at Sport Compact Miami...

Mission:  To provide a point of access into the Import Tuning Movement in South Florida through event coverage and documentation about tuning and modifying Domestic and Import cars to enhance performance and appearance.

Now for the million dollar question:
Why spend
$1000's on an "economy" car to turn it into a "performance" car?  The answer is simple.  Why not?  "Gearheads", "Grease Monkeys", etc., have been doing it for decades.  There's a satisfaction from taking a mild-mannered car and turning it into a power hungry beast.  Knowing that everyone else has a 150hp econobox while you toy with 300+ turbocharged HP on your way to work is gratifying like nothing else.  How far can you take it?  Sky's the limit if you have enough money, but every car has a breaking point...Some things just aren't going to happen.  NO amount of cash will turn your car into an Enzo no matter how bad you want it to.  ;-)

SCM Staff:

WEBMASTER K
I love cars and speed, always have.  The first time I went 100mph in a car (at 12 years old) it was the scariest, most incredible thing I had ever experienced.  As I was way too young to drive, I fueled my "Need for Speed" by riding the biggest fastest roller coasters I could whenever I could.  I raced go carts, rode dirt bikes, and pushed my BMX bikes to the limits of destruction.  My father was a pretty fast driver so I guess speed is in my blood so to speak.  He had a 1970 Hemi Barracuda with the monster .383 block.  Unfortunately, this car was wrecked long before I would ever have the chance to drive it.  (Can you imagine me in High School with a Cuda??  I would have been THE man!!)  He later bought a 1987 Cougar XR-7 which is Mercury's "luxury" answer to the Mustang GT.  (Same 5.0L 302 but with less HP than the Stang)  I definitely had some fun driving that car (265lbs of rubber melting torque!)

I have my own project in the works that is just getting started, a 2000 Mazda 626 ES-V6.  Check it out on Cardomain.com: The Miami Power Project  There are plenty of other phat rides over at that site too!  You may be thinking "Ah-ha-ha.....this dope is trying to tune up a 626!!"  However, what you may not know is that the KL03 2.5L V6 is the exact same engine that is in the Ford Probe GT, which is definitely a sports car and Fords next fastest car behind the Stang.  Think of the 626 as a 4 door Probe GT :) .  That combined with the fact that MAZDA try's to live up to it's "ZOOM-ZOOM" theme in all it's vehicles, the 626 is a fun car to drive, quick and very responsive....bone stock.  So what do you think happens when you "tune" one with engine, suspension, and wheel upgrades?  It's HAULS, that's what!!  My first goal is to break 200hp NA (naturally aspirated) then possibly add a super charger or whatever may be available at that time.

TONY P
Tony P is a car guy.  Who else would be a part of a car site? ;-)  He's good with cars and mechanics and does most of his own work at home.  One of the benefits of buying older cars is that they can help you become a great wrencher!  One of his first cars was an '82 240ZX Turbo that was (and still is) a fast car for it's time.  He has also had a GTI, GTA, and now a 93 DX Hatch that is soon going to be undergoing some mods to boost it's performance.

Tony provides much needed support in the field at shows and car shoots and if you haven't seen him out and about, you likely will soon.

Errol
You could say that Errol is a car maniac.  And we mean that in a good way of course.  Totally obsessed with horsepower, he's been tweaking cars to eek out the most power possible since he was in his teens.
Having owned more cars than all of us, he's the "go to" guy for performance.  From a highly-tuned 68 Stang, to a sweet Formula Firebird, to a 600+whp Cobra Mustang, to the B16C swapped CRX that currently blasts him around town.

Did we mention he is also a car audio nut?  He's probably had SPL's that could make the Sound Off champions cry.  4 12's at 800w, 3 15's at 1200w, or 2 20's at 3000w and beyond with bass strong enough to resuscitate a heart attack victim.  Keep an eye out for him (or an ear!)

More to come...
