Sport Compact Miami presents...
2006 NHRA Sport Compact ShowdownThe 2006 NHRA Sport Compact event was a solid event. There were a decent number of competitors out in both the Show-n-Shine and the Bracket racing. The event turned out despite the rain that fell most of the day (even at one point causing us to reconsider the 70mi journey.) We stuck it out and you get to reap the rewards of us getting muddied shoes and desperately running for cover to avoid getting our equipment wet.
In addition to the cars that were out to show their looks and power, vendors were on hand selling their go fast and look good products which there were almost enough for you to roll up in a stock Civic and put out a show car after a few hours! :) Garrett Turbo was there showing their newest snails and event had some cutaways so you could see what the internals look like up close.
Despite the weather robbing the sunshine away from the day, the recurring showers kept all the photo-graphers running for cover (us included). On top of which, at least 2 times while we were there they shut down the 1320 because it was all wet. Luckily Moroso has a great team on location for Medical, Mechanical, and track maintenance who came out, swept, power fanned, and heated to dry the track up. Quite a few of the racers almost lost it with 1 colliding down by the 1250 mark. He walked away thanks to all the safety equip but boy was he upset! See it all here.
